Nemo Est Supra Mortem

I just finished watching the second season of True Detective and oh man... I am really sad. I liked both seasons equally, despite their very different styles, but I truly feel a hole in heart with the way this season closed out. Great show though. Further evidence that HBO understands original content in a way that Netflix and Amazon just don't yet.

Also, a shout out to Lera Lynn, whose music absolutely kills it. Her last song for the show, Lately, is spot on: melody mixed with a great bass track, emotional and raw but soulful. She brought that ish home.

I don't agree with the general sentiment that Vince Vaughn doesn't fit his role. I think he has suffered from being typecast and if I didn't have Wedding Crashers or Swingers flashing through my mind every time he gave that flat-eyed stare to his screen-mates, I would think him a legitimate character actor. He was actually good and believable - just let go of his previous roles and enjoy his approach for what it is. I was not a huge fan of Kelly Reilly. She was great in Flight (though it was an unenjoyable movie) but I had trouble with her in this stretch - also, her relationship with VV was straight up forced.

I am a fan of the three main cops (Rachel McAdams, Colin Farrell and Taylor Kitsch). I don't think it's coincidence that they grew on me at the same time as they grew on each other. That is great storytelling, but I can imagine that some folks were pushed away earlier in the season by not having a person to identify with and follow (that was my issue with Game of Thrones, as an aside).

All in all, great show, great season. Like the Raven's Shadow trilogy, this story left me saddened and with a bitter taste in my mouth. But, you can bet I'll check back in when Nic Pizzolatto brings TD3 around.

That is all,

Zoodle wraps of love

From last time:
Also, some wraps I want to tee up for this week.
I made them last night... and they were delish. I didn't have beans, so I put in some strips of red bell peppers + a little bit of sriracha cream cheese to make the spread a little softer. Also, I used tomato+basil hummus from Trader Joe's. I think the hummus + the sriracha cream cheese had enough salt, so be wary of adding more on top. Seasonings included ground parsley, oregano, black pepper (pinches of all), and veggies were julienne-peeled italian squash, shredded carrot, red bell pepper, all in whole wheat tortilla.

I should really start taking photos of my foodz.

Cheerio,
